Following the review of the parliamentary boundaries across the UK, at the next general election, there will be several changes to the Carlisle parliamentary seat.
The seat will expand to the north and east, gaining the Longtown; Houghton and Irthington; Brampton and Corby and Hayton divisions, and the many local Parish Councils that exist in this area. It will after 40 years no longer contain the Dalston and Burgh division, which moves into the Penrith and Solway parliamentary seat. This is a major redistribution and is required to ensure that most parliamentary seats are of broadly equal size.
